NMB48 and Fireworks (Fuochi d'artificio)

Friday, 19th August 2011  (all the pictures here) Another festival... :) Tonight fireworks at the Imperial Palace... But  before there is the exhibition of the NMB48.. The NMB48 is a very popular Japanese idol group, a flood of Japanese girls wearing miniskirts who dance and sing in 5 square meters of stage :) ... They also make many appearances  and interviews in TV shows and on YouTube for the fans.. from a certain point of view this can be seen as a circus to where these babies (13-18 years-old) are attracted with the promise that they will become very popular..and this is a bit disconcerting.. Another thing that impressed me is that the 80% of the audience were males (not so young). To see so many men singing and dancing at the   rhythm of these songs was a bit shocking.. Beyond those reflections, it was a pleasant evening, also considering the fireworks :) PS. There was no admission fee :D

Venerdì, 19 Agosto 2011  (tutte le foto qui) Altra festa... :) Stasera fuochi d'artificio al Palazzo Imperiale.. Ma prima si esibiscono le NMB48.. Le NMB48 sono un idol group giapponese molto popolare (stile "Spice Girls" ma leggermente più infantile). Non sono altro che una marea di ragazzine giapponesi in minigonna che ballano e cantano in 5 metri quadrati di palco :) .... Per gli appassionati fanno anche apparizioni e rilasciano interviste in TV e su YouTube...da un certo punto di vista il tutto potrebbe essere visto come un circo in cui queste bambine (13-18 anni) vengono attirate con la promessa di avere tanta popolarità..e questo mi sconcerta un po'.. Un'altra cosa che mi ha colpito è che l'80% del pubblico è maschile (non giovanissimi). Vedere ragazzi che cantano e si dimenano al ritmo di canzoni a dir poco infantili è stato abbastanza scioccante.. Al di là di queste riflessioni, è stata una serata piacevole, considerando anche i fuochi :) PS. L'ingresso era gratuito :D

Daimonji Okuribi and Manto Kuyoe

Monday, 15th August 2011  (all the pictures here) Daimonji Okuribi This ceremony began in 1960, and is a prayer for departed spirits and world peace. A giant bonfire is lit in the shape of the kanji “大”, which stands for the universe, and is meant to cleanse the evil thoughts from people’s minds and leave them clear and pure.

Lunedì, 15 Agosto 2011  (tutte le foto qui) Daimonji Okuribi Questa cerimonia iniziò nel 1960, ed è una preghiera per gli spiriti dei defunti e la pace nel mondo. Un falò gigante con la forma del kanji  “大”, che sta per "universo", viene acceso per purificare le menti delle persone dai cattivi pensieri.

Manto Kuyoe On the last day of Urabon (festival), fire is offered to the Daibutsu (Big Buddha) statue in a memorial to departed souls.  A small window is opened, and the face of the Daibutsu can be seen from outside.  About 2,000 hanging lanterns are offered to the Buddha.

Manto Kuyoe Nell'ultimo giorno del festival Urabon, del fuoco è offerto alla statua del Grande Buddha (Daibutsu) in memoria delle anime dei defunti. Una piccola finestra viene aperta e il viso del Grande Buddha può essere visto dall'esterno. Circa 2000 lanterne sono offerte al Buddha.

Weekend on Mt. Fuji

Friday 29th - Sunday 31st July 2011 - Tokyo (all the pictures here) Another good memory to add to all the other ones that this year in Japan has been giving me.. I arrive in Tokyo from Kyoto by night bus on Saturday morning. While waiting for the train to Mt. Fuji I decide to kill the time visiting the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, from which you can see the whole city of Tokyo.. Huge buildings overhanging the city and over there, far away, instead of the Fuji you can only see big black clouds... :( .

Venerdi' 29 - Domenica 31 Luglio 2011 - Tokyo (tutte le foto qui) Un altro bel ricordo da aggiungere a tutti gli altri che, questo anno, il Giappone mi sta regalando... Arrivo a Tokyo da Kyoto con il bus notturno il sabato mattina. Giusto per ammazzare il tempo in attesa del treno per il Monte Fuji vado a visitare il Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building dal quale si puo' ammirare Tokyo in tutta la sua grandezza. Palazzi giganteschi che sovrastano la citta' e in lontananza al posto del Fuji si scorgono solamente nuvoloni neri :( .

After three hours on the train I meet my friends at the station "Mount Fuji", but the weather is not promising..we are already wet before leaving :)

Dopo tre ore di treno ritrovo i miei amici alla stazione "Monte Fuji", ma la situazione meteo non e' delle piu' promettenti..siamo gia' bagnati prima di partire :)

At 9 PM we take the bus which brings us to the 5th station on Mt.Fuji, from which we will start our 6-hours climbing. Once at the 5th station the weather is a bit scary because we can see many flashes far away.. On the way up we stop some times at the various "check points" to eat some chocolate and drink some water..and then march again :)

Alle 9 di sera prendiamo il bus che ci porta alla quinta stazione sul Monte Fuji, dalla quale cominceremo la scalata di 6 ore. Una volta alla quinta stazione le condizioni del tempo fanno un po' paura perche' si possono vedere molti fulmini in lontananza.. Lungo la strada ci fermiamo qualche volta nei vari "check point" per mangiare un po' di cioccolata e bere dell'acqua...e ancora in marcia :)

Around 4.45 AM the first of us arrive on the top and assist to a magnificent spectacle. The feelings are indescribable, because after 6 hours of climbing your brain stops thinking and you just feel. All that whipped cream covering the sun and together with the sun creates wonderful games of light..the first thought is: "this must be Paradise..".

Attorno alle 4.45 di notte i primi di noi arrivano in cima e si ritrovano davanti ad uno spettacolo magnifico. Le sensazioni sono indescrivibili, perche' dopo 6 ore di scalata il cervello se ne va per i fatti suoi. Quella panna montanta che copre il sole e con il sole crea dei giochi di luce stupendi...il primo pensiero e': "questo e' il Paradiso..".

Then the miniature lakes and houses; all those people who were climbing with you, now admire the same landscape exclaiming: "すごい！！"(read "Sugoi", terrific).

Poi i laghi e le case in miniatura; tutte quelle persone che salivano con te adesso ammirano lo stesso pasaggio esclamando:"すごい！！"(leggi "Sugoi", fantastico).

And then the way down..perhaps more tiring than the way up, considering that the knees keep reminding me that we walked for a long time.. Moreover all that whipped cream that we could see from the top, now is spraying on us the same kind of drizzle that you have in amusement parks..which at 3000m height is not so pleasant :D But this is the price to pay for the show..

E poi la discesa...forse piu' faticosa della salita, perche' la stanchezza e' tanta e il ginocchio me lo ricorda con insistenza.. In piu' tutta quella panna montata che si vedeva dall'alto adesso ti spruzza della pioggerellina "stile Gardaland" che a 3000 metri d'altezza non e' proprio piacevole :D Ma questo e' il prezzo da pagare per lo spettacolo..

Once at the bottom of the volcano we are exhausted, so we eat something fast and leave towards Tokyo..a bus for Kyoto is waiting for me at 11 PM.. At the very end of the trip tough, I notice something which is worth a picture near Shinjuku station..a shop which makes PIZZOCCHERI (special food from the north of Italy..)!!!! :)

Una volta arrivati ai piedi del vulcano siamo stremati e mangiamo qualcosa velocemente per poi ripartire verso Tokyo...Alle 11 di sera mi aspetta il bus per tornare a Kyoto.. Noto, pero', un'ultima cosa vicino alla stazione di Shinjuku...PIZZOCCHERI!!!Un negozio che fa pizzoccheri..questa merita una foto :)

若草山 (Wakakusa-yama)

Sunday, 24th July 2011 Today I had a nice walk which led me on the top of the small hill overhanging Nara: the "mount" Wakakusa. This hill is famous because of the event 若草山山焼き (Wakakusa Yamayaki), which means "Burning the mount Wakakusa" (Pictures). The event was held the 21st of January this year and I was lucky enough to attend. The origins of this event are said to lie in a dispute over the boundaries of three areas in Nara. The boundary dispute got out of control and when an official acted as mediator in 1760, Mt. Wakakusayama, the very center of the conflict, was set ablaze. According to other explanations, the mountain was burned to drive away wild boars or to exterminate harmful insects. Since I assisted to the burning I've been wondering how Nara looks like from above, so today I decided to verify for myself :) . The hiking part is not very hard and within 1 hour and a half I reached the "third and last top" but because of the sweltering heat I arrived worn-out (euphemism for sweat :) ). I have to say, though, that it was worth it, since I could see the whole Nara from the majestic mountain (342 m :D)!!!  All jokes aside, it was really pleasant: being in such a quiet place with such a nice view and surrounded by deers was a good prize for the sweat... :) (Pictures). Unfortunately on the way back I was stubborn to look for a waterfall, that eventually I couldn't even find. With the result that I found myself alone in the wood, in the dark, surrounded by crows and strange animals crossing my way (I HOPE they were squirrels) and with a nice thunderstorm on its way to start... I started running :D Nice Sunday..

Domenica, 24 Luglio 2011 Oggi ho fatto una passeggiata che mi ha portato in cima alla piccola collina che sovrasta Nara: il "monte" Wakakusa.  Questa collina è famosa per l'evento 若草山山焼き (Wakakusa Yamayaki) che letteralmente significa "Bruciare la montagna Wakakusa" (Foto). L'evento si è tenuto il 21 di Gennaio quest'anno e ho avuto la fortuna di assistere.  Si dice che le origini dell'evento si basino su una disputa che comprendeva tre zone di Nara. Quando il conflitto diventò più aspro, nel 1760, un ufficiale fu in grado di mediare e portare la pace. Il monte Wakakusa, che si trova al centro delle tre zone, fu dato alle fiamme in memoria di questo evento. Altri dicono che la montagna sia stata bruciata per scacciare cinghiali o sterminare degli insetti. Dal momento in cui ho assistito alla bruciatura della montagna mi sono chiesto che aspetto avesse Nara dall'alto e allora oggi ho deciso di verificare di persona :) . La camminata non è particolarmente impegnativa, nel giro di 1 ora e mezza ho raggiunto la terza ed ultima "vetta", ma visto il caldo afoso sono arrivato abbastanza provato (eufemismo per sudato :) ).  Devo dire, però, che ne è valsa la pena visto che ho potuto ammirare tutta Nara dalla maestosa montagna (342 m :D)!!! A parte gli scherzi, la sensazione è stata davvero piacevole. Trovarsi in un posto così tranquillo con una vista così bella e circondato da cervi è stato un bel premio per la sudata.. :) (Foto). Purtroppo nel tornare indietro mi sono intestardito alla ricerca di una cascata che alla fine nemmeno ho trovato. Con il risultato che mi sono ritrovato solo nel bosco al buio, circondato da corvi e strani animali che mi attraversavano la strada (SPERO fossero scoiattoli) e con un temporale alle porte...ho cominciato a correre :D Bella Domenica..

Memories about Naganuma..

Tokyo, 1 September 2010 - 31 December 2010 Every day: get up at 7:00 AM, take the train for more than one hour and a half, stay at school 6 hours, eat Bento, study Japanese, come back home by train (again more than 1 hour and a half), cook, eat, study (again), around 2 AM go to sleep... But when I see these images I just can recall very nice moments, spent laughing and having fun with friends, in one of the biggest city in the world. Coffee breaks, basketball shots, comments about nice girls in the next classrooms. Planning friday night with friends (予定がありますか？ read: yotei ga arimasu ka?). Eating bento together, making stupid jokes about italian gestures. Preparing the final presentation all together.. Even if it was hard, all this moments are unforgettable..it was like being part of a big family for 4 months.. I miss Naganuma School and the nice atmosphere the Vulcanus group was bringing..

Tokyo, 1 Settembre 2010 - 31 Dicembre 2010 Ogni giorno: sveglia alle 7 del mattino, sul treno per più di un'ora e mezza, a scuola per 6 ore, pranzo col Bento, studiare giapponese, tornare a casa col treno (per più di un'ora e mezza, ancora), cucinare, cenare,  studiare (ancora), andare a dormire alle 2 di notte.. Ma quando vedo queste immagini mi ricordo solo dei bei momenti trascorsi con gli amici, in una delle città più belle del mondo. Pause caffè, tiri a canestro, commenti sulle ragazze carine della classe accanto. Pianificare i venerdì sera con gli amici (予定がありますか？ leggi: yotei ga arimasu ka?). Mangiare il Bento tutti insieme, facendo stupide lezioni riguardo al modo di gesticolare degli italiani. Preparare la final presentation tutti insieme.. Anche se è stata dura, tutti questi momenti sono indimenticabili..è stato come far parte di una grande famiglia per 4 mesi.. Mi manca la Naganuma e la bella atmosfera del gruppo Vulcanus..

花見 (Hanami)

Hanami, la combinazione dei due kanji (simboli), significa letteralmente "Guardare i fiori". Nelle prime due settimane di aprile i fiori di ciliegio (桜　- sakura) sbocciano e i giapponesi si ritrovano a fare dei picnic sotto questi bellissimi alberi..
